Dance Marathon 25 Delivers Miracles by Raising $2,960,403.25

IOWA CITY, IA – On February 1 & 2, 2019, members of University of Iowa Dance Marathon
came together for their 25th annual Big Event, celebrating not only this year but the past 25 years
of making miracles happen all for the kids. For 24 hours, over 3,000 students gathered in the
Iowa Memorial Union to celebrate, honor, and remember the pediatric oncology patients and
their families. In the last hour of the Big Event, Sam Richter, DM25’s Business Director,
reflected on the past 24 hours and the past year before he and his committee members revealed
the year’s total fundraising number.

What the tote board revealed was miraculous and an accurate representation of our
organization’s year-round efforts. Through inclusivity, unwavering optimism, and the courage to
challenge tradition, Dance Marathon 25 raised $2,960,403.25 all For The Kids (FTK).

The tote board was helped by the Mini Dance Marathons, Children’s Miracle
Network Radiothon, and fundraising efforts by Dance Marathon alumni. This year alone, the
Mini Dance Marathons, held by local schools, contributed $142,602.73, our Dance Marathon
alumni granted over $100,153.25 and the iHeart Radio Call for Kids With Cancer Radiothon
contributed $85,945.

Dance Marathon emphasized inclusivity with its year-long campaign, “Shape Your Impact,” by
recognizing the worth of each individual in the Dance Marathon community, which includes
over 2,800 dancers, 300 leadership members, 950 Dance Marathon families, 600 volunteers, and
many donors and sponsors. Dance Marathon 25 challenged tradition through recognizing areas
of growth by celebrating diversity within its members and families and offering more
accommodations throughout the year and during the Big Event.

With our fundraising efforts this year, we will continue providing emotional and financial
support for pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplant patients and their families treated at
University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. This year’s successes were made possible
by many acts – both large and small – from everyone in the community, all in an effort to uphold
our promise to fill the hearts of the children and families. We are so proud of this year’s
fundraising total, but our efforts do not conclude with this year. Our Dance Marathon children
and families are the reason for everything we do; they are the inspiration behind our lime.
