“Day to DM Exceeds Fundraising Goal, Reaching New Levels of Hope”

IOWA CITY, IA — On November 8, 2018, The University of Iowa Dance Marathon had their annual fundraising push day: Day to DM. By the end of the day, UIDM had exceeded their goal of $325,000 by raising $482,578.34.

Day to DM had a variety of meanings: a Day to Dance Marathon, a Day to Drive Motivation, a Day to Donate Money, a Day to Do More.

Together, UIDM set a fundraising goal of $325,000. The “3” for our record break of three million during last year’s Big Event. The “25” because of our twenty-fifth year. For the last 24 hours, Dance Marathon leadership members, dancers, alumni, family and friends worked towards this common goal that would benefit the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital— particularly for the children battling pediatric cancer on the 11th floor.

Throughout the day, incentives were given, phone calls were made, and people were encouraging each other to work extremely hard for the families and children who need it most.

At 8:00 p.m., Dance Marathon members in the Iowa Memorial Union gathered in the Main Lounge for a mock “Power Hour” from the Big Event.

At 8:30 p.m., the Business Committee of UIDM released the tote-board of how much money was raised that day—revealing that $482,578.34 was raised. UIDM exceeded their goal by $157,578.34.

With 84 days to the Big Event, there is plenty of fundraising to continue but as an organization, we are extremely proud of each other’s fundraising efforts on November 8, 2018.
