Kickoff to Kinnick partners with UI Dance Marathon

IOWA CITY, IA — This September 30 at 9:30 a.m. at Kinnick Stadium, the University of Iowa’s Kickoff to Kinnick will partner with the University of Iowa’s Dance Marathon. The partnership is expecting a great outcome from their annual 5k run/walk. This will be Kickoff to Kinnick’s fourth year and are estimating between three and four thousand people in attendance. In the past three years, Kickoff to Kinnick has raised over $112,000 and is foreseeing to exceed that from the partnership with UI Dance Marathon. This partnership between Kickoff to Kinnick and Dance Marathon will include the presence of our Dance Marathon kids and their families. During this event, a picnic lunch will be provided for the families from Zio Johno’s Spaghetti House followed by a race for the Dance Marathon kids. Mitch Beckert, Event Director of Kickoff to Kinnick, had the idea during his year’s at the University of Iowa as an opportunity to give back to UI. “It’s grown into something much larger than expected, and I can’t give enough credit to my co-race director Charles Stelk who has been apart of this from day [one],” Beckert said. “It’s obviously great to give back to a great cause like DM [and] UI Children’s, but what’s really great that is overlooked sometimes is the fact that we are entertaining thousands of people and promoting health and wellness at the same time.” "The University of Iowa is incredibly excited about this partnership with Kickoff to Kinnick. It is such an incredible event that is a staple in the community. Outside of Hawkeye football games, it is one of the only occasions for students and community members alike to gather in the historic Kinnick Stadium. With the Stead Family Children's Hospital nearby and University of Iowa Dance Marathon families present at the event, participants will see first hand where their contribution is going and what it can do to help. This event represents growth in both fundraising and awareness for the University of Iowa Dance Marathon, and fulfills our Dance Marathon 24 vision by embracing challenges, pushing limits, and fostering innovation. We are looking forward to September 30th,” said Kelsie Ferstl, Dance Marathon 24 Development Director. “I chose to partner with Dance Marathon because UI Children’s is an incredible benefactor and the work inside that building is of the upmost importance at the University hands down,” said Beckert. All press is encouraged to come to the event for more coverage. For more information, please contact myself or our Development Director, Kelsie, at
