Dear Members of the Press,

The University of Iowa Dance Marathon (UIDM) is the largest student-run organization on campus, bringing together thousands of students each year to support children battling cancer and their families. For more than three decades, UIDM has provided emotional and financial support to pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplant patients at the University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

Dance Marathon is more than a fundraiser. It is a year-round movement. Throughout the year, students organize events, raise awareness, fundraise, and build meaningful relationships with the families we support. These efforts culminate in February at our 24-hour Big Event, where participants remain on their feet to celebrate our kiddos and recognize the impact of our shared efforts.

To date, UIDM has raised more than $39 million to support treatment expenses, family assistance, comfort items, research, and long-term services.

As the Public Relations Director for Dance Marathon 33, I welcome media interest in our mission and impact. Whether you are covering an event, looking for a human-interest story, or highlighting the work of student leaders, UIDM has meaningful stories to share.

On this page, you will find recent press releases and media materials that offer a closer look at our organization. We are happy to coordinate interviews with leadership members, dancers, or families. We can also assist with media access for upcoming events.

To cover an event, request an interview, or learn more about UIDM, please contact me at dm-publicrelations@uiowa.edu.

You can also access our official DM33 Press Kit.

Thank you for helping us share the stories that make this mission so meaningful.

Creating tomorrow by dancing today,
Elle Smith
