Avery Galles, a senior from Fort Dodge, Iowa, has been involved in Dance Marathon for four years and currently serves as the Family Liaison Director.

Why did you want to get involved in Dance Marathon?

I wanted to get involved in Dance Marathon to make a difference in the lives of the kiddos at Stead Family Children's Hospital.

My family has personally been impacted by cancer, so joining an organization that fights for more cancer research and funding for kids was something I was very passionate about. I stayed in the organization after talking with and connecting with some of the families and kiddos, they have grown my "why" so much!

What impact has Dance Marathon made on your life?

Being a part of Dance Marathon has truly been transformative for me. It has helped me grow in so many positive ways, and I’ve had the privilege of forming new friendships and connecting with countless families along the way.

What message would you share with current UI dancers?

Stick with it. When I first joined Dance Marathon as a dancer, I didn’t know anyone. Getting involved in leadership changed everything for me. The more you invest in this organization, the more fulfilling the experience will be.

What message would you share with families and children who benefit from Dance Marathon?

To all the families I’ve had the privilege of meeting, thank you for sharing your stories, your strength, and your hope. You have been a source of inspiration and have grown my "why" so much.
