The UIDM Platelet Program is a powerful way for University of Iowa students, faculty, and community members to directly support children receiving treatment at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

What Are Platelets?

Platelets are small blood cells that help stop bleeding. Children undergoing cancer treatment often need platelet transfusions due to chemotherapy’s effects on the bone marrow. Your donation can help save a life.

Why It Matters

Many of our kiddos rely on platelet transfusions to stay strong during their fight. By donating, you’re giving hope, strength, and healing. It’s one of the most direct ways to support our families and live out the UIDM mission.

How It Works

Where to Donate: UI DeGowin Blood Center (located at UI Hospitals & Clinics)

Eligibility: Most healthy individuals 17+ are eligible
