The Runway of Hope brought the community together to celebrate UI Dance Marathon’s amazing kiddos.
Dr. David Gordon opened the event, sharing a story about how far cancer treatment has advanced since he was a child and noting how much hope we can find in that progress. Still, he encouraged the crowd to continue fundraising, reminding everyone that as long as cancer is here, UI Dance Marathon is too.
Then, the biggest stars graced the stage: the kiddos.
The fashion show was split into three rounds—Hawkeye gear, Dance Marathon gear, and costumes. Some kids took the stage as solo acts, dazzling the crowd with their superstar poses, while others shared the spotlight with friends, family, and UI Dance Marathon volunteers.
Dr. Gordon announced each model as they strutted down the runway, sharing favorite memories, favorite school subjects, and which animals they would choose to become. He also highlighted what they want to be when they grow up. Future singers, artists, nurses, and many, many astronauts took their turn in the spotlight, folding their arms across their chests or waving to their adoring fans.
Ultimately, the Runway of Hope was more than a fashion show. It was a chance for families to connect over brunch. It was a silent auction. Above all, it was a reminder–and for many dancers, families, and community members, a first glimpse–of UI Dance Marathon’s year-round impact.
