Pierce was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma, which is a very rare cancerous tumor that starts in the liver, when he was just 6 months old. He underwent 5 rounds of chemotherapy at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital before going to Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago for a liver resection. He then returned to the University of Iowa and completed two more rounds of chemotherapy. He has now been off of treatment for 15 months and is back to his wild, rambunctious two-year old self. Cancer can’t keep him down, and you’d never know what he went through just by looking at him. He was a dancing machine last year at the Big Event, and we are all excited to see what he’ll be like this year!
